Hatha Yoga is the most common form of yoga taught in the West, and is generally defined as “yoga of the body”. The traditional hatha yoga class includes body movement and held postures combined with awareness on the breath to focus the mind and awaken the subtle energies within. Hatha yoga is practiced to unify and prepare the body and mind for the ultimate experience of self-realization, using the finite body to reach the infinite self.
Iyengar Yoga is a Hatha Yoga style based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and distinctive for its focus on alignment and precision in each posture. The use of props allows Iyengar yoga to be accessible to all people at all stages of life and experience. The practice is firmly grounded in the classical yoga text, the Yoga SÅ«tras of Patañjali, with students acquiring a deep knowledge of the finite self in order to open the door to the true, infinite being within.
Restorative Yoga. Yoga asanas are practiced with support so that they are performed without strain. "Active relaxation" occurs when the body is stationary, but the mind is still very focused on the breath and in tune with bodily sensation and change. This brings balance back to the body, the mind, and the spirit with rejuvenating and stress-relieving effects.
